He was born August 19, 1928, in Summersville, West Virginia, to parents John Samuel and Olive Margaret (Rader) Perkins of Summersville, West Virginia.
Harold met and married the love of his life Nancy (Altizer) on December 2nd, 1950, in Clifton Forge, Virginia. They began their life together in West Virginia, and as their family grew, they relocated to Maryland to focus on careers and to raise their four children: Karen, Marsha, Eddie, and Danny.
To his children, Harold was a hero, an army vet, a fireman, and a teacher of important life lessons. He taught them a strong work ethic, the difference between right and wrong, and how to love. He was always available, whether it was to toss a ball, chaperon school field trips, attend sports functions, or to simply listen when they needed to talk. His greatest joys were his children as well as his nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his wife, Nancy Rae (Altizer) Perkins, daughter, Karen Ogden of Tampico, IL, daughter, Marsha Perkins and husband Chris Corrie of Raleigh, NC, son, Eddie and wife Romlah Perkins of Gaithersburg, MD, and son Danny and wife Heather (Phenicie) Perkins of Bealton, VA. As one of five children, Harold is also survived by brothers, Robert and wife Reba Perkins, Gene and wife Barbara Perkins, and Jack and wife Claren Perkins, and brother-in-law Rodney O'Dell, husband of late beloved sister Evelyn Rae (Perkins) O'Dell.
In lieu of a funeral there will be a celebration of Harold's life, to be scheduled in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold's memory may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Rainelle, 345 7th Street, Rainelle, WV 25962, fbcrainelle.com .
