Edwin (Eddie) Brogdon Jenkins, aged 85, of Raleigh, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, after a brief illness. Born in Washington, DC to the late Hugh Powell Jenkins and Myrtle Brogdon Jenkins, Eddie relocated to Raleigh with his family after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1956, and remained there for the rest of his life.
An avid painter, Eddie’s artistic talents earned him ribbons at the North Carolina State Fair. Driven by his passion for the arts, he generously supported causes close to his heart by donating pieces of his creations, leaving a lasting impact beyond the canvas, touching the lives of those around him.
Edenton Street United Methodist Church played a significant role in Eddie's life. An active member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church, Eddie was a constant presence, whether at the Ruth Sheets Center for Adult Daycare or during worship or with his Sunday School group.
Quick-witted and finding joy in engaging conversations, Eddie particularly enjoyed discussions about current events, politics, and NC State athletics. His love for donuts and Mexican food was well-known, and his daily walks became legendary in the neighborhood.
Eddie is survived by his chosen family from church, the neighborhood and community. Many thanks and heartfelt gratitude to Meals on Wheels for their constant support, providing comfort and sustenance to Eddie. His beloved Sunday school class played a significant role in Eddie's life providing care, compassion and support. Thank you, also to the neighbors of Cameron Village, who were always ready with a ride home or a grocery store run, creating a supportive community that meant a great deal to Eddie.
In honoring Eddie’s memory, we invite you to gift yourself the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the beauty in everyday life – a walk, a piece of art, a joke, or a friend.
A service to celebrate his life was held at Edenton Street United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 23rd, at 1:30 pm, followed by a reception at the church. Eddie was laid to rest next to his parents at Oakwood Cemetery.
