Edward W. Pou Moran, 83, of Raleigh, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012, surrounded by his family. Born in Washington, DC on November 3, 1928, he was the son of the late Carlton Moran and Margaret Pou Parham. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Moran Clements.
He is survived by his sister, Sumner Parham Broughton of Raleigh, and her four children, Sidney Sawyer Campen III, and his wife Wendy, and their daughter Sawyer Lynn of Federalsburg, MD; Sumner Brooke Schwab and her children, Lauren Sumner Schwab, Atlee Brooke Schwab, and Timothy Fuller Schwab; Edwin Fuller Parham Broughton, and his daughter Tristin Bain Broughton; and Mary Lloyd Broughton and her son, Robert Owen Markovich, all of Raleigh. He is also survived by his niece, Margaret Pou Clements Conolly and her children, Margaret Clements Conolly and Davis Howell Conolly of Jacksonville, FL.
Ed grew up in Henderson, NC, and attended Henderson High School and Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA. His college years were spent at NC State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He was always proud to be an Eagle Scout and a member of the Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. A veteran of the US Air Force, Ed spent the first part of his military career at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, and completed his service as a 2nd Lieutenant and graduate of the US Psychological Warfare School at Ft. Bragg, NC.
His career began at Carolina Bagging Company in Henderson, but his passion for stocks and investing led him to a lifelong career as a stockbroker, beginning at McCarley and Company in Asheville, NC and also opened the Raleigh office. He retired in 1997 from Wachovia Securities. In retirement Ed continued to study the markets, and loved sharing his insight and passion for the stock market.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 24, 2012 from 6-8pm, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Henderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sidney Campen, Parham Broughton, Davis Conolly, Fuller Schwab and Owen Markovich.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Rex Hospital, their doctors and nurses, and all his caregivers, especially to Sandra Johnson who has been a special friend to all of the family.
