Edna Lois Hard Hogan was born on July 13, 1924, the youngest of ten, in West Plains, Missouri. She passed away on November 18, 2015, surrounded by loving family, in Raleigh, NC. Known to all as “Eddie,” she will be dearly missed. She was a strong, independent woman. Although she did work outside the home, she took her greatest pride in creating a warm, welcoming, loving home, filled with celebration and music. She had a lifelong love of music, singing, and dancing. She made every holiday, especially Christmas and birthdays, special and had a true gift for making all of her family feel happy, secure, loved, and protected. All of her loved ones knew without doubt that she was in their corner and had their back. She loved nothing more than having family gathered around a bountiful table, everyone well fed and happy. Whenever possible, she insisted on nightly family dinner time; many lessons were contained in those dinners including, but not limited to: be thankful for what you have, nothing is impossible to a willing heart, a job worth doing is worth doing well, and many hands make light work.
She was a long time member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Raleigh, NC, active in the choir and in the Women’s Circle for many years. She remained a lifelong avid reader and follower of current events and politics, devouring books and every inch of her daily newspaper for as long as her eyesight would allow. She was a woman of strong opinions, loved to discuss politics, never shrank from an argument, and always spoke her mind. Like all of her brothers and sisters, she was outgoing, open, friendly to all, and proud of her ability to connect with everybody she met.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, William S. Hogan and granddaughter Mattison Hogan. She is survived by daughter, Lisa Hogan; daughter, Tracy Weidig and her husband, Matt Weidig; son, Mason Hogan and his wife, Barbara von Euler; son, Matt Hogan and his wife, Andrea Hogan; and grandchildren, Jenna Weidig, Tyler Weidig, Malin von Euler-Hogan, Natanael von Euler-Hogan, Calvin Hogan, and Matlyn Hogan; and great granddaughter, Autumn Weidig.
In her later years, she was lovingly cared for by Fatima Lala, Margaret Oginni, Alyssa Yancey, Taofikat Oladipo, Catrine Oginni, and Denise Hooker.
The family will host an informal gathering to honor and celebrate her life at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC, 27609 on November 22, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Macular Degeneration Foundation, www.macular.org.
