Dr. Patricia Marie Garrett (born 17 May 1943) wished to write her own obituary. She wishes to thank all who made her life possible. Her parents, James Francis and Marie Croghan Garrett reared her in love. From them she learned a reverence for learning and a commitment to social justice. Her sibs, Ann Garrett Caruso (Tulsa, OK) and James F. Garrett II (Falls Church, VA) taught her tolerance. Over a lifetime, we learned to agree to disagree, all while fundamentally agreeing. Her son, Aaron Garrett-Schesch, anchored her life, posing both challenges and opportunities.
Dr. Garrett made her mark on the international literature regarding women in development and domestic literature regarding maternal employment and childcare. Hers is a respectable academic publishing record. Her proudest achievement, however, is a set of brochures promoting publicly-funded children’s health insurance—all details precise but written at a third grade level.
Michael Schulman was her long term, devoted, protective, forgiving, and loving partner. May he also move on to enjoy love again.
