Cannot believe it's been two years!      What a great person!   What a huge loss!       Many hugs to his family!

How shocked we were to learn of Doug’s passing! We have such great memories of Bonnie and Doug at NCSU baseball games. Harold tells folks all the time what a great group of people we sit around at the games. 

Doug made us laugh – whether about his hamburger, his day, a baseball play. But he never joked about his admiration for Bonnie, always telling us about a new quilt or trip she took with his mom, something to sing her praises. 

I’ve never met a man so excited, so thrilled, so happy about their retirement! While his retirement on earth was shorter than expected, I know he lived every day of it to the fullest.  

We love you!

Wow.  Where to start as this is definitely not the end.  I have a lot of fond memories of Doug and his pranks (or him being pranked) at Netlink, the first company I worked for out of college.  I can tell the story of tungsten wire (not about the wire itself but what Doug would do with it), slamming tailgates (this was one pulled on Doug), Bali Hai "grief", me on his trampoline at his house (first and last time I got on one), and the basement full of army surplus desks (yes, I still have one in my garage).  I'm sure there are other stories I have forgotten that would be just as funny.

The light in the world definitely has gotten a little dimmer with Doug gone.  RIP, my friend.

Imagine this conversation Doug would have had with God.

Doug: God, since I'm hear I've a couple questions.

God: Go ahead

Doug: Can you explain quantum mechanics to me? And entanglement. That just doesn't make sense. One more thing. The whole big bang theory. Did we get that right or are we chasing out tails on that?

God: Well Doug. I, of course can answer ALL those questions but what fun would that be?  Some of the best minds I've created are here: Einstein, Newton, Copernicus, Tesla, all the Greek philosophers are available, Well,  except that one that questions MY existence. He's locked up with Pandora. They're all here. Why not go talk with them yourself to find the answers?

Yes, Doug is indeed in heaven!

So sorry for your loss. To add to Doug’s accomplishments, he was a great sledding partner. We had a lot of fun. Kim Sanders Simmons, Tim Pruitt, Doug and myself had a super fun time sledding on Hundley drive in Draper back in the day. I will never forget him!

Bonnie And Family:  We want to express our sincere sympathy to all of you.  We were deeply saddened to learn of Doug's passing.  We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. . . .Our memories take us back to the days of Ham Radio.  Doug and Tom lived only a short distance apart.  Because of this, operating the radio at the same time could be a challenge.  Doug always knew it was Tom, the Ham Friend down the road getting into his radio.  My memories of Doug go back to the days when Butch and I first got together.  Butch and Doug were good friends and ham radio buddies.  I was the new girlfriend and got to meet all of the friends.  I am so glad I got to know Doug Hall!  Later, I was introduced to Bonnie.  I remember you two visiting us in our upstairs apartment.  That's when I learned you like butterflies and then made you a butterfly latch hook wall hanging.  Oh, the memories!  How precious and sweet! I didn't know him all that well due to living in Virginia but I knew him enough to know that he was a great person. He made me feel loved and cared for. I am his niece adopted by Erica Hall. 

Even though I'm not blood he made sure that I felt like I was. The love that he gave so many people was so incredibly real. He loved me like he knew me since the day I was born. Sadly he only knew me for two years but I would've loved it if he did. He was my great uncle that I never had. 

I do have a memory that has ran through my mind endlessly since I found out the news. Doug, Liam, Aiden(my brother) and myself were at  Lynn's house in the back yard and he had two or three BB guns that he had brought over for us children to use. He set up three cans on a flat log and said to us to shoot the one that was in front of us. He helped Aiden shoot it and hit the can.  I remembered how happy Aiden looked he was so proud of himself and Doug cheered him on so much and in that moment I realized that this family that I have now will be my forever family.

Every Friday, you could count on seeing Doug and Bonnie's smiling faces as they passed out weekend meals to be delivered to homebound seniors. Doug's cheerful, playful spirit was felt by all our volunteers and staff, and his unwavering commitment to helping those in need was deeply apparent. Whether he brought along his grandchildren to share in the ethos of giving back to those in need, or simply gave a cheerful hello to passerby, the goodness of Doug was very clear. We are so deeply saddened at the loss of Doug. The hearts of everyone at Meals on Wheels of Wake County are with Bonnie, Doug's children, grandchildren, and to all the other countless lives he has touched. 

When he took over the net for Charlie WA3UTC I would call in. He was always very pleasant, professional and friendly. I’m so sorry to see that he has passed he will be missed!

2. The family enjoyed many get togethers  and special  summer holidays on Lake Watauga.  Charlie and Doug were cruising in the canoe - 
When Carla manned the Sea-doo and circled the canoe unmercifully  - attempting to  separate  them from their ship! 
From the porch we could view Doug removing his  white tee shirt - attaching it to the fishing pole - waving a flag of surrender -SOS.

Christopher  and Tiffany  - reading the obituary reminded me  of two specific occasions that I still laugh about- 
1. On the first cruise we took as a family - CG was in the shower -  Doug came into the stateroom excitedly speaking a foreign language -  “we must leave, hurry, hurry!”   “Can’t I at least finish my shower!”  “No! No, time, we must hurry !”  Let me put my clothes on………”  “No! We must leave, fast!”……. As the whole  family  held their stomachs - laughing! ………..and if you knew  CG……

Such a great guy! So interesting, smart, and engaging. He sure loved his bride- no one else shows up at work to take their spouse to lunch! I can just imagine him now- teaching some angel how to make Heaven foggier with dry ice! He seemed to know a lot about many things- the ultimate tinkerer and troubleshooter. 
Our hearts and prayers go out to Bonnie and the family. The Raleigh Children’s is shutting down the office today because everyone loves this family and wants to go to the memorial service- a testament to their sacrificial love for each other and to those around them.

Doug was a long time instructor for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at NC State, mostly on technical subjects, how his favorite gadgets and toys work.  He had a special sense of humor and a lot of charm-he even got 16 people to sign up to hear him talk about ham radio! Over the years he made a lot of friends in our program who will dearly miss him. All of us at OLLI send our condolences to Bonnie and the family. 

We’re so sorry for your loss Douglas was a wonder man he will be greatly missed especially by his loving family. Our prayers are with all of you. Can you just imagine him and Louis together in Heaven with their jokes and laughter. After all he is his father’s son. Such sweet memories we share and such wonderful friends to share life with! May you feel God’s love in all your memories and in the life you share with all of us that love you and Doug!

Doug was my friend and spiritual brother. He will be remembered for his strong faith in God and his love for the Lord’s church. His devotion to and love for Bonnie, his children, and his grandchildren and other family members were evidenced by his deeds and his speech.  His friends were many.  His care and compassion for others were well known. He was a man of many talents, and he was fun to be with. I join with the many others who mourn his death.  I give thanks for the Lord bringing Doug into my life.  I will miss him. 

I remember going to Capital City Christian Church and getting to know your sweet family! Your Dad was such a neat guy. It breaks my heart to hear of his passing and we’ll be praying for y’all. 

Neville and I send the family our most heartfelt condolences.  Doug was a unique and special person.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and always a kind word.  This world is a bit more dim without him, but Heaven is much brighter.

I have often thought of you and Doug over the years since I attended Capital City Church of Christ. No matter how many people might be around, if you were talking to Doug you had his undivided attention. His love for Bonnie was so evident. I pray in the days and weeks ahead that the ceaseless, tender mercy of the Spirit will comfort you  

Bonnie, the Freeman family was so sad to learn of this loss.  Through the years I have enjoyed so much watching, along with you and Doug, our sons grow  from six year old rascals to such fine young men ... in large part due to Doug's influence.  I appreciate so much his acting as Jacob's 2nd Dad - loving him, guiding him and ... (appropriately, at times) terrorizing him.  We will all miss him so much.  

Bonnie, Tiffany and CD, Finley, Liam and Crosby and family, my sincere condolences are with you all. 

Doug was so easy to love!! He was a JOY to know and I am so thankful for the time I was able to spend with Bonnie and Doug during our events at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ and especially our "Becoming One" ministry group. He will be missed, but as Tiffany said, we trust that God welcomed him into eternity. 

He will be missed, but I have so many wonderful memories of him that he will never be forgotten!

Conversations with you were always entertaining. Sometimes they were loud, often informative, and occasionally incomprehensible, but they were always entertaining. I look forward to having many more of them one day in eternity.

Doug was a classmate when we were young.  He and my brother, Tim Joyce, did ham radio together.  Once, Doug rode his motorcycle to our house and I begged him to let me ride.  I did up the street, and turned around to arrive home, just to let it fall over on me when I tried to get off.  He picked it up and picked me up.  He was an amazing guy and I'm so glad we'll see him again very soon in Heaven!  Praying for his sweet family!

I loved Doug so much because he loved YOU and your family so  very much! He made everyone he met feel special! His love for JESUS showed forth in everything he did.
