Dot was born November 13, 1933 and spent her childhood and school years in Springfield, New Jersey graduating from Jonathan Dayton High School. In 1955, she received her BA degree from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio (now a part of Miami University) and married Roger E. Medlin her husband of 46 years. Roger was stationed in the Air Force in Alexandria, Virginia, where Dot taught elementary school until her son Gary was born. The next permanent move was with Westinghouse Meter Division in St. Louis, Missouri where their daughter Cathy was born. After a short stay in Glen Ellyn, IL they settled in Raleigh, NC after the Meter Division moved there.
Dot was active in several organizations including the Millbrook Women’s Club, Carolina Harmony Chorus of Sweet Adelines, Inc. and Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was busy with Amazing Grays, her Circle, and was a dedicated member of the Chancel Choir. She worked with H&R Block, Birch-Moore Real Estate, and at NCSU in Poe Hall. Dot was a tireless volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Fairfax Hills Park, was an AARP Tax Aide, and drove friends wherever they needed to go. Since moving to Brookdale North Raleigh, she found her place as an Ambassador.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband Roger Medlin, her parents, Milton Chase Runyon and Dorothy Merwin Runyon; brother, Robert Chase Runyon, nephew Chase Runyon, and brother-in-law Robert Perry.
She is survived by a son, Gary E. Medlin of Raleigh, daughter, Cathy Eatmon and husband James Eatmon of Wilson, NC: granddaughters, Christin and husband Michael Britt of Durham, and Melissa Eatmon of Raleigh and fiancé John Bradner of Cary; great-grandchildren, James, Owen, and Anna Lewis Britt. She is also survived by her sister, Gail Perry of Sussex, UK, Gail’s daughter, Michelé Genrich (Tom) their children Isaac, Rafe, Ezra and Jem of France: sister-in-law, Lucy Runyon of Boston, MA, nieces, Diane Saper (Bert) and their daughter March of Chicago, IL; Linda Mutschler (Jock) of Milwaukee, WI and their children, Jam of NH and Brodie of WI and nephew, Scott Runyon (Emily) and their daughters, Eleanor and Jane of Boston, MA.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The Medlin family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh, NC.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 2:00pm at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4921 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, NC.
