Dorothy Parker Correll

A wife, mother and friend has finished her earthly sojourn. Dorothy P. Correll passed suddenly and peacefully on the morning of Friday, November 25th, after 96 years. She is the daughter of Stafford McRae and Erlmah Huffard Parker. From the nineteen twenties in Greensboro, N.C., Dorothy enjoyed dancing and ballet as a child. She also enjoyed roaming the 214 acre farm in Rural Retreat, Virginia during the summer months in the 1930’s and early 1940’s.

After graduation from Greensboro Grimsley HS, she went to Women’s College which is now UNC-G. In 1944-1946, she attended UNC-Chapel Hill and achieved a degree in Journalism. During the summer of 1944, she was a USO girl with the troops in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and danced the night away. After graduation, she worked as a reporter for the Greensboro Daily News. She then changed careers with a para legal course and became a legal secretary for the law firm of Kerr Scott. In 1944, on a blind date, she met William C. Correll and married him in August 1949. Dorothy changed career paths again and worked for the NC Commissioner of Labor as a secretary. In March of 1951, William C. Correll Jr. was born. Her architect husband worked in Raleigh and then in 1954-1957, worked for a firm in Roanoke, Va. Her husband then became the architect for the State of North Carolina from 1957-1982.

Dorothy’s other hobbies were flower arranging, the Raleigh Garden Club, Highland UMC Bazaars and finding antiques to refinish. Dorothy was also a member of the Caswell Nash DAR Chapter.

A special thanks of love is given to the CNA’s who cared for her for over six years. They are Sandra Johnson, Juanita Bailey, Bettye Williams, Lizzie Rogers, Tracey Horton and Stephanie Cobb. Dorothy is at peace and free at last.

On Thursday, December 1, 2022, there is a meet and greet time between 11:00 am -12:00 pm at Highland United Methodist Church. The funeral is at 12:00 noon. After the funeral, internment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
