Doris Leoda “Lee” Cargal was an early Christmas present for her parents John E. Hall and Lula Cassidy Hall. The last of eight children, she was born in Cheraw, SC on December 24, 1924. On March 7, 2021, at the age of 96, she went to her final home having lived a very exciting and fulfilling life.
Lee traveled the world with Jim, her husband of 69 years. Those years included living in Atlanta, GA, Mexico, The Philippine Islands, Akron, OH, and Raleigh, NC. Together, they raised three children of whom she would tell anyone she was extremely proud. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles, as well as play bridge, mahjong, golf and bowl with her friends. All time spent with family created treasured memories, but especially the vacations at the beach.
After high school, she became a registered nurse. The skills she needed to be a good nurse were the same traits she displayed in her daily living: compassion, respect, caring for others, and attention to details. “Me” and “I” were rarely her first thoughts or words from her mouth.
Lee is survived by her son, James Cargal, Daughters; Janice Burlovich and husband Michael and Jenny Krieski and husband Bill; 7 grandchildren- Michele, Erin, Christopher, Melissa, Angela, Kimberly and Stephen; 3 great-grandchildren- Zack, Makayla, Maya and 2 more on the way.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and great-granddaughter, Ashley.
A family Celebration of Life service will be held at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Raleigh at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2021 with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Floral Gardens Cemetery in High Point, NC.
Memorials may be made in Lee’s name to Dementia Alliance, 9131 Anson Way, Suite #206, Raleigh, NC 27615.
