Doris Morgan Barnes

Doris graduated from Trinity High School in 1944. She proudly served in the United States Nurse Cadet Corp from 1944-1947. During that time, she graduated with her nursing degree in 1945 from Children Hospital School of Nursing in Washington DC as well as from High Point Memorial Hospital in 1947. Doris married the love of her life, Earl Bruce Barnes, Jr. on January 1, 1947. Later in life, she was presented the Rotary Prestigious Paul Harris Award in 1992 by the North Raleigh Rotary Club. She has also been an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 297 of Raleigh. Doris was a devout member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church for many years, where she was a Sunday school member of the Cameron Class.

Doris is survived by her son, Ricky Lee Barnes of Wendell, NC; daughter, Amy Barnes Hambright and her husband, James Hambright, III of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Morgan C. Hambright and her fiancé, Grey Johnson and Benjamin H. Hambright, all of Raleigh, NC; and niece, Dara Bowman of High Point, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Bruce Barnes, Jr.; her twin sister, Dorothy Morgan Payne; and her parents.

A funeral service will be held at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11:00am. Entombment will follow the service at Floral Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum in High Point, NC at 3:00pm.
