DK had an avid passion for hunting, fishing and for nature itself. He was known for his upbeat attitude, sense of humor and his “sweet soul”. Professionally DK was a general contractor in Raleigh. After retirement he divided his time between Raleigh, the Outer Banks, Chincoteague and his own little tropical paradise in Cudjoe Key, FL. DK was most passionate about serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There was nothing he loved more than participating at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. He was a loyal follower of God and was often found reading his Bible, humming a church hymn or recounting the blessings bestowed to him.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Betty (Strange) Collins; his son, Donald King Collins, Jr. of Raleigh, and his wife Anita; his daughter, Kim Collins Stewart of Greensboro, NC, and her husband, Leon Stewart, Jr.; his brother, Ronald Wayne Collins, Sr., of Raleigh, and his wife, Judy; four grandchildren, Brittani Collins, Allie Stewart, Zach Collins and Sara Stewart; and a host of brothers and sisters in Christ.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, 4316 Main St., Chincoteague, VA 23336.
His family will receive friends at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground, Fort Valley, GA., and Saturday April 16, 2011 from 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral services will be at the campground on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:00 pm, with interment to follow at the church cemetery.
