Diana Maria Bellas Terezis of Raleigh, North Carolina fell asleep in the heavenly house of the Lord on November 30, 2021. She was a long-time resident of Steubenville, Ohio. She was born on October 12, 1938 in Steubenville, Ohio. Diana was the daughter of the late Constantine and Kiki (Michaelopoulos) Bellas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Nick L. Terezis, a general and thoracic surgeon whose practice served the Ohio Valley for over 35 years.
Diana was survived by three children: Dr. Cynthia (William Kerner) Terezis, of Cleveland, OH, Dr. Teresa (James Klemes) Terezis Klemes of Raleigh, NC, and Nicholas E. (Maria Mahfood) Terezis of Pittsburgh, PA, and six grandchildren: Christina and Nicholas Kerner, John, Kyra and Eirena Klemes, and Ava Terezis. Also surviving are two brothers, Michael C. (Helen) Bellas of New York, NY and Albert C. (Kay) Bellas of New York, NY.
Mrs.Terezis graduated from Steubenville High School in 1955, and attended Pierce College in Athens, Greece for one year. She graduated from Barnard College, the women’s undergraduate college of Columbia University, in 1959, as a botany major. Mrs. Terezis was employed as a medical researcher in a virus laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, under the direction of the Dean. It was during this time, she met her husband. They married in 1961 and settled in Steubenville, Ohio.
Diana was a dedicated and life-long member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville, Ohio. She was a member of the board for several years and served as the Treasurer. In addition, she was an Orthodox Education teacher and choir member for many years. She assisted with baking and serving during the annual Greek Food Festival fundraisers. Diana was also a member of St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church of Naples, FL and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Raleigh, NC. With her husband, Diana was a fulfilled member of the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. She was a member of the Philoptochos Greek Orthodox philanthropic organization and a benefactor of International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).
Diana was involved in many community activities. She was appointed to the board of the Jefferson County Children Services Board in 1974 and served for many years. She was an active member of the St. John Hospital Hemlock Twig philanthropic organization, the Jefferson County Medical Society Auxiliary, and the Ohio Valley Hospital Women’s Advisory Board; she also volunteered in the hospital gift shop.
Diana was a gourmet cook, played bridge monthly, and enjoyed needlepoint, gardening in her greenhouse, playing the piano and tennis. She was a patron of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and a 40-year subscriber to the Mellon Grand Classics.
Diana will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Heartfelt thanks are extended to her dedicated caregivers.
Calling hours will be at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville on Friday, December, 3 2021, from 4-7 pm. Trisagion prayers will be held at 6:00 pm.
The funeral will be at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11 am with a viewing from 10-11 am. Burial at Union Cemetery. The Saturday 11:00 am funeral ceremony will be streamed online at HolyTrinityStb.org/live.
