Dennis Clark Albrecht was born July 14, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away peacefully at home in his favorite recliner on February 15, 2024 in Raleigh, North Carolina with family by his side. He was married to the love of his life, Kathy, for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Walter and Grace Albrecht, and sister, Kathy Campolo.
He was the proud father of Dennis Jr. (Debi) of Fairview Park, Ohio, Steve (Beth) of New Port Richey, Florida and Kristen Ralph (Brian) of Raleigh, North Carolina. Loving grandfather of Stefan, Abby, Eden, Izzy, Ryan and Taylor. Devoted brother of Susan Shrader. Uncle to many across the country.
Dennis served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through volunteering at his church congregations as Elder, Usher, and Council Member (Gethsemane Lutheran in Lakewood, Hosanna Lutheran in Olmsted Falls, Emmaus Journey in North Ridgeville, and Church of the Open Door in Elyria & Avon Lake). He served his community in the City of Lakewood with many years of leadership as Major for the Auxiliary Police force, including surviving and providing emergency assistance at the Lakewood Park fireworks catastrophe in 1981. He attended Lutheran High School West in Rocky River, Ohio where he and Kathy first met and fell in love.
His work ethic was extraordinary. He gave nearly 40 years of long hours at Haserodt Tool & Die where he became foreman of the Tool & Die Department. As he approached retirement, he realized his lifelong dream of traveling the country with Kathy while pulling his plush RV trailer around many of the National Parks with his prized F-350 Super Duty. He and Kathy enjoyed 13 of their retirement years at Wilder’s Fort Myers RV Resort in Florida where they lived initially as snowbirds and then as full-time residents. He later enjoyed several years of “employment” at the RV park where he split his time between physical maintenance work and driving around in a golf cart to socialize with all the residents. He also volunteered some of his free time to lead the RV park’s water aerobics classes.
Dennis was known for his love of people. It showed in his work and in his life. He cherished the annual Canadian fishing trips with the guys where he was the designated chef, better known as “Cookie”, and didn’t consider the trip a success unless each guy gained 10 pounds. He was always there for anyone that needed help and didn’t know how to say “no”.
A memorial service will take place on at 11am on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Church of the Open Door. Calling hours will begin at 10am. Private interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Dennis’ honor to Lutheran High School West (https://www.lutheranwest.com/Giving), Hope Community Church of Raleigh (https://gethope.net/give/), or Transitions LifeCare Hospice (transitionslifecare.org/donate).
