Dave was born on November 3, 1927 in Henderson, North Carolina. He graduated from high school, coached high school basketball, and ultimately received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from High Point University.
He worked as a civil engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, retiring after 32 years of dedicated service. His numerous work accomplishments included planning the western NC portions of Interstate 40.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Joyner Moss and Thomas Ballard Cook; sisters Louise Gorham and Julia Pullen; and his first love, Sue.
Dave married the second love of his life, Julia Taylor Redford on January 3, 1998.
He was made an honorary alumnus of North Carolina State University and was an avid fan – cheering on the Wolfpack at many basketball and football games over the years.
Dave believed in being of maximum service to God and his fellows, spending over 65 years of his life in love and service to others as a member of a worldwide fellowship, through which he touched the lives of thousands of people.
Dave is survived by his wife, Julie; nieces Sandi Otwell, Judy Hughes, Kathy Boseman; nephew Bill Burton; and so very many special friends that were like family.
The celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on February 25, 2023 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC. Sam Grigsby will be officiating. A reception will follow the service.
