David Thomas Barnes Jr, age 60 of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015. He was born May 5th, 1954 in Columbus County, NC.

In addition to his parents, David Thomas and Ann White Barnes of Spartanburg, SC, David is survived by his wife, Paula Gately Barnes, daughters Emily of Raleigh, NC and Christal Gordon, husband Shannon and granddaughter Lyric of Atlanta, GA; and son Jason Kuykendall of Chadbourn, NC. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Barnes, wife Patricia of Spartanburg, SC, niece Lindsay Meyers, husband Jonathan and their daughters’ Ashley and Caroline of Lewisville, NC.

David was an amazing person full of life, kindness and generosity of spirit. He loved his family, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the beach, his 3 dogs, music, his friends and took great pride in his work building Biogen and other local pharmaceutical plants. He livened up any space he was in with his humor, compassion and vitality; he will be deeply missed.

There will be a Celebration of David’s life on May 2, 2015 at 11 am at the United Methodist Church, 506 Lake Shore Drive, Lake Waccamaw, NC in honor of his May 5th birthday. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in his honor at the home of Patricia and David Medlin, 860 Bella Colla, Lake Waccamaw, NC, hosted by the Medlin and Mitchell Barnes family. Lake Waccamaw was always a special place for David as it served as a favorite family gathering spot for the extended Barnes family.
