Dallas Leon Lloyd, 86, of Raleigh, died Sunday October 26, 2014, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the son of the late Zeno Leon and Gladys Caudle Lloyd. Dallas was born in Raleigh at the old Rex Hospital on South Street. Dallas attended Oak Ridge Military Academy during some of his high school years but graduated from Broughton High School in 1946.
Dallas briefly attended NCSU before leaving to work full-time. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. After attending electronics school on Treasure Island in San Francisco, he spent 2 years on the South Pacific island of Guam. Over his lifetime, Dallas worked at Carolina Power & Light, Piedmont Airlines, Aerotron, GTE Sylvania, WLFL Channel 22, and, then, Curtis Media, where he continued to work part-time until his passing.
Dallas is survived by his dearly loved wife of 59 years Janet Goss Lloyd, children David (Donna) Lloyd of Mandeville LA, Barbara (Grady) Walsh of Roselle IL, and Sandra (Andrew) Phillips of Durham. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren - Timothy, Patrick, and Carrie Beth Lloyd, Allison and Daniel Walsh, and Liam Phillips.
Dallas will be remembered as a loving husband & father, a quiet family man with a great sense of humor. He told great stories with an uncanny recall of detail. Having lived in Raleigh most of his life, Dallas was a member of the Ole Raleigh Boys Club and enjoyed their annual dinners to get together and reminisce. A lifelong member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), Dallas enjoyed being a "ham" and his skills at Morse Code were exemplary. He loved dogs & ice cream, dabbled in photography & sailing, and was interested in science & science fiction. He was a loyal member of Trinity Baptist Church of Raleigh for 53 years where he served in several capacities.

Visitation will be held Thursday night at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh NC 27609, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, at 1:00 pm.
