Dale R. Stumpf, age 75, of Raleigh, North Carolina died peacefully at his home February 21, 2018. Dale was born in Belleville, Illinois September 25, 1942, the son of the late Alvin John Stumpf and Esther Margaret Huch Stumpf. After graduation from Columbia High School, Columbia, Illinois, Mr. Stumpf enlisted in the United States Army, serving six months active duty and six years in the Reserves.
He attended Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, and Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois studying accounting and economics. Mr. Stumpf was employed by Sealtest-Kraft in St. Louis, Missouri and later was transferred to Chicago, Illinois and Cleveland, Ohio. As a Financial Controller with ITT Continental Baking Company, Mr. Stumpf and his family lived in Richmond, Virginia, Tampa, Florida and Raleigh, North Carolina. Raleigh became his permanent home in 1982.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stumpf was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Crake; a brother, Lylburn Walter Stumpf; and a niece, Diana Lynn Becherer. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Mary Patricia Sifford; a son, Brice Tyler Stumpf (Christina) of Raleigh; grandson, Tyler Wells Stumpf; sister-in-law, Ethel Altes Stumpf of Waterloo, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Larry Edward Sifford (Judy) of Branson West, Missouri and Stephen Michael Sifford (Barbara) of Nashville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews; a great niece and nephews; and cousins.
Mr. Stumpf is a Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Raleigh. A graveside committal for Mr. Stumpf will be at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, North Carolina on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2:00pm. The graveside service is open to those who may wish to attend.
Dale Stumpf was a quiet man, a man of faith, a good husband, father and grandfather; strong in many ways.
