Delmar David Steinbock, Jr., age 76, former Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice, passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Born on August 5, 1945 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma; he was the only child of Delmar David Steinbock and Elizabeth Hogue Steinbock.
David is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Patricia Taylor Steinbock and son, Delmar David "Tripp" Steinbock III, wife Amie Hatcher Steinbock and grandchildren Asher David and Willa Grace Steinbock.
After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill, David elected to attend Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia where he was commissioned as a Captain in the US Army infantry on March 28, 1969. In the fall of 1969, David was deployed to Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart as well as the Bronze Star for Valor. David was inducted in the United States Army Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame in 2009.
David met Patricia in 1970 and the two were married soon after in August of 1972. David graduated from Tulsa University Law School in 1975, which began a long legal career that started with the NC ABC Commission and included periods with the Department of Justice, Attorney General’s Office, Property Control Division and culminated with the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services where he served as general counsel for the ADFP Trust Fund.
David was an avid golfer and staunch UNC supporter. His favorite pastime was traveling the country playing different golf courses with friends and family.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 16th from 12 Noon until 1:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, with a horse drawn caisson to the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park for Military Honors.
