Cynthia was born and raised in Alamo, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Joe M. Pierce and Ruth E. Pierce. She was a graduate of Alamo High School. Cynthia had a love of children and decided to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin where she graduated in 1977 with a degree in Special Education. During that time, she met her beloved husband, Tom, to whom she was married for 48 years. Cynthia used her gifts with children throughout her life. After College, Cynthia worked as a Special Education teacher until the birth of her first child. She was blessed to be able to stay home full time to create a loving environment for her family where she dedicated herself to homemaking while raising her family. After raising her three children, she returned to teaching and spent many years as a preschool teacher and substitute teaching in Raleigh.
Cynthia and Tom shared the same passion of being actively involved in church and served as youth teachers for 33 years.
