Cynthia is survived by her remarkable and loving husband of 12 years, Bernard Louis Hardy, Jr. and her caring family including siblings Deborah Frena in Jacksonville, Florida; Eric Avery and his wife, Billie Alexander Avery in Franklinton, NC; Sarah Perich and her husband, Greg Perich in MacClenny, Florida.
Nieces and nephews include: Georganna Frena and Samantha Levitt in Jacksonville, Florida; Erin Avery; James Avery and his wife Tammy Avery and great niece Kathryn Avery and great nephew Maximilian Avery; Mary Avery Davis and her husband Jayme Davis in Raleigh, North Carolina; Alexander Henry Avery and his wife Ashley in Nashville, TN; Avery Perich and his wife Traci and great niece Evelyn; Erica Perich and great niece Arianna Perich; and maternal uncle, William T. Ballard in Jacksonville, Florida.
Her supportive step children and their families include Susan Harrison and her husband Rusty of Houston, TX; Janet Voorhees and her husband Kevin of Hoover, AL; and John Hardy and his wife Stephanie of Corvallis, OR. Grandchildren include Katherine and Sarah Voorhees and Samuel and Eli Hardy.
Cynthia graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in Pennsylvania, attended Lake Erie College in Ohio, and then transferred and graduated from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1976. She loved her lifetime career as a professional social worker helping people with many needs in a variety of medical settings.
She was a member of Wake Forest Presbyterian Church in Wake Forest, NC.
Donations in her memory may be made to Pretty in Pink, for assistance to breast cancer patients, or to the American Cancer Society.
Due to the present community gathering restrictions, private family graveside services will be held at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens in Raleigh. A hyperlink to the recording of the service will be posted to this page after the service for public viewing.
