Cristin Council Flynt passed away in her home on July 26, 2022. She was born on October 27, 1953 to Sally Senter Council and Edward Land Council in Lake Waccamaw, NC. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Nursing in 1976. She served as a nurse in many different hospital settings. Her favorite setting was in labor and delivery where she enjoyed helping women become mothers. She continued to serve her community through volunteering as a nurse and helping with refugee families through her beloved church, First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. As her children grew older, she decided to go back to school where she graduated from University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1997 with her PhD in Education.
Cris proudly used her PhD to work for the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, as well as work with a breast cancer non-profit helping to write grants. She was a part of, and taught, a bible study at First Presbyterian. She loved learning about the bible and strongly believed in God’s love.
She returned to Lake Waccamaw in 2012 to help care for her parents in their later years. Throughout her life, she was always a loving and generous daughter, mother, friend, and sister. She deeply loved her children, her friends and her family. She was an excellent hostess and always made everyone feel welcome. After her father passed away in 2021, she moved back to Raleigh, NC to be closer to her children and friends. Those of us who knew her well, know we have lost one of the most kind hearted souls we could ever hope to have in our lives.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Drake Flynt, her son, David Edward Flynt (Dave), and her brother, Edward Land Council, Jr (Ed). She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Sally Council, and her brother Walter Senter Council.
The family hosted a celebration of life at Mitchell Funeral Home on Sunday July 31, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Community Home Care and Hospice of Whiteville, who lovingly provided end of life care for her parents.
