Clara Lee King Crowder was born on August 14, 1934, Princeton, West Virginia, the third child of Elizabeth and Ralph King who preceded her in death, along with one sister and one brother. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Rev. Donald Crowder; daughters, Elizabeth Kay and husband Donny Shuskey of West Palm Beach, FL, Janice Elaine and husband Joe Kincaid of Asheboro, NC, and Cherie Annette Crowder of Raleigh; and sons, Rev. William Keith and wife Celia of Chicago, IL and Donald Jr. of Raleigh; 10 Grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, a sister, Linda Mae Osborne of Marion, IN, and a brother, R. Steve King of Lima, OH.
She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who always gave of herself to others. After her youngest child entered school she returned to college to fulfill her lifelong dream of being a nurse. She worked at both hospital and nursing home situations until having to retire on disability. In addition to all of these responsibilities, she faithfully served as a pastor’s wife, Sunday school teacher, and choir leader in churches where her husband served.
A private inurnment service for family will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park on Thursday morning at 11:00am, followed by a memorial service for family and friends at Christ Covenant Church, 6501 Fox Road at 2:00pm. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the church or their favorite charity.
