Charlotte Anne Hunt (Goodwin) Pennell, 83, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on September 28, 2021. She was the wife of George H. Pennell and had retired from work in property management. She was a 1956 graduate of Oxford High School, a 1958 graduate of St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh, attended the University of North Carolina, and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Mrs. Pennell was born on March 30, 1938, in Oxford, North Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Anne Jordan (Hunt) Graham and William Henry Hunt, Jr. Following college, she was married to James Clivie Goodwin, Jr., and spent 18 years as a Navy wife and lived in several different parts of the United States. She then worked in property management and was married to George Pennell in 2000. Mrs. Pennell was proud of being a direct descendant of a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and she enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her and her husband George’s grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Anne Goodwin Crump, and son-in-law, Claude H. Crump, III, as well as her grandchildren Charlotte Crump Williams and husband Michael T. Williams; Claude H. Crump, IV; and Virginia G. Crump; by her step-daughter Suzette P. Brown and son-in-law Patrick Brown; by her step-son Mark Pennell and daughter-in-law Martha S. Pennell; and step-grandchildren Katherine Brown, Kelly Brown, Samuel Pennell and wife Grace Pennell, and Charles Pennell.
Family will receive friends on Monday evening, October 4, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Anglican Church in Raleigh, with a Graveside Service following at 1:30 PM at Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Anglican Church - 908 Deboy Street - Raleigh, NC 27606.
