Charles L Nicholson, 84, of Raleigh died Sunday, December 29, 2013. He was the son of James L and Bernice Graves Nicholson, for 61 years the loving husband of Lorraine, loving father of Nora and Paul and grandfather of Sam. Educated by Georgia Public School System, Emory, Indiana and Pittsburg Universities. Always a teacher, Dr. Nicholson's career began as a middle school teacher and went on as a guidance counselor, principal, professor and Professor Emeritus at North Carolina Central University. His strictness, high expectations, and concerns for his students earned him their respect and gratitude. He wrote two text books and many professional articles about educational testing and measurements and received various awards for his work. He served with the U.S. Army, 304th Signal Corps as a cryptographer during the Korean War. He loved traveling, studying history, science, the beach, and many family pets, but most of all he enjoyed people. His keen wit, sense of humor and generous spirit endeared him to people of many walks of life. He is also survived by brother and sister–in-law Robert and Patricia Kilduski, nieces, nephews and grand and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of the Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609 on Friday, January 3rd, 2014 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Saint Raphael's the Archangel Catholic Church, Kidney Foundation and/or Parkinson Disease Foundation.
