Charles Arthur Newton, formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL, passed away peacefully on February 1st. Charles was born on March 30, 1950, in Ridley Park, PA and was preceded in death by his parents, John and Wannetta Newton. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Newton Nickel and her husband Peter of Raleigh; niece, Ellen Goshorn; nephews Matthew and David Mulvaney; and many members of his extended family.
Charles was employed by Illinois Benedictine College through Marriott Food Services for 17 years and after his move to Raleigh worked for eight years at Springmoor in food services, always the conscientious and dedicated employee. In earlier years he was active in sports of all kinds, participated annually in Special Olympics and was a loyal fan of the Chicago Bulls and NBA star Michael Jordan. He will forever be remembered as being a kind and gentle soul, pure in heart, and always ready to step in to help others whenever needed and to the best of his ability.
The family would especially like to thank Charles’ caregivers, Dee Bogan and Marcy Spruill, and the many dedicated health care providers/coworkers/residents at Springmoor who embraced him like one of the family.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at the Springmoor Auditorium, 1500 Sawmill Rd., on Sunday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m.
