Mr. G., How can I possibly sum up all of the wonderful things you gave to the many young men who passed through through Troop 311 while you were Scout Master. I, for one, a better man because of the life lessons you taught me. I will always remeber the time that you showed me how to porperly wear my sheath knife so that I wouldn't injure myself. I will always remember your words; "always leave your campsite better than you found it". You weren't just talking about a camp site, you were talking about our lives. When ever you spoke to us, you had to use your muiddle finger due to having lost your ring finger. You used it to make us "see" what we needed to do and how we needed to act as boy scouts. I have carried that image in my mind to remind me to always "Be preapred", always "help others" and "to do a good deed daily!". You had a great deal to do with making me the man I am today. Thank you for showing me the right path and giving me the tools to deal with adversity. I am one man who will always carry you in his heart. Robert M. Hinnant

Were it not for brother Chuck I would not have retired with a good income, obtained a great Civil Service job, traveled the world and have a loving family.  All because Chuch advised me to make a career of the Military. He was my life mentor.

Although I did not know him well, I am certain that he must have played a very important role in creating the family that he had - and you are one terrific family.  My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you at this most difficult of times.

Pat and I are very saddened to hear about Charlie's passing from this life, but are encouraged in that "to be absent from the body is to be face to face with the Lord."  As friends, co-worker at CP&L, and fellow travelers in this life, we offer our condolences to you all and ask and pray that our Father in heaven will grant you the peace that passes ALL understanding.

What special memories come to mind with the mention of our beloved Mr. G! All the Troop 311 scouts of years past all owe you and your family a debt of gratitude at this time of reflection and remembrance. Your patience with us at tenderfoot level to your supportive outward pride as we accomplished more in scouting and life in general will always be remembered. Who can forget the green Ford wagon and trailer crammed with our backpacks and gear or your words of encouragement? We can't and we won't because you and your family have been a part of our lives that will live on with us. Thanks from us all!

Thank you Mr. G. for all you shared with us!  Your sons, your bride, your backyard, the old Ford station wagon and trailer, the camp sites with so many memories and skills to grow up with.   Troop 311.  You really out did yourself with that one!
