Charles Franklin George, Jr. went to heaven to be with Jesus Christ, on May 11, 2017. His life verse was Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I AM with you; be not dismayed, for I AM your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand”. Now his Lord has lifted him home, and his faith has become sight!
He was born in Raleigh to the late Charles Franklin George, Sr. and Estelle Lassiter George. God brought Charles’ beloved, loyal wife, Helen Bell George, into his life on September 9, 1950. The family Charles dearly loved includes his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mike Gardner; his son & daughter-in-law, Craig and Frances George; 5 grandchildren: Liz Gardner, John Gardner and wife, Lauren; Benjamin George, Mary Scott George, Catherine George; and great-grandchild, Charlie Gardner. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Blizzard and her husband, Paul, and was predeceased by his sister, Marguerite MacIntyre.
Charles graduated from Broughton High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as Information Services Officer at Sampson Air Force Base, Geneva, New York. He worked with WPTF as a Sales Representative, at Wachovia Bank as Branch Manager of the Hayes Barton Office. At one period, he was Director of Student Aid at N.C. State University and finished his professional career as Associate Director of North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority. After his retirement, he served for 22 years as a staff volunteer for two churches.
Charles was truly blessed in serving the Lord as Substitute Teaching Leader and Class Administrator for the first men’s Bible Study Fellowship class in the area that began in 1982. Since 1997, he has given oversight to the administrative and shepherding divisions of the Monday Night Bible Study.
Visitation will be at Christ Baptist Church from 9-11 am on Saturday, May 13, followed by a celebration of his life beginning at 11 am. There will be a private family burial.
