Charles Lewis Futrell, Sr. 71 of Zebulon was born August 16, 1945 as the second son to Floyd and Neta Futrell in Jackson, North Carolina. Charles passed away at Transitions LifeCare Hospice on Monday, June 19, 2017 in Raleigh, North Carolina. In November of 1963, he enlisted in the Navy and was honorably discharged in October of 1964. He married Barbara Ann Miller in North Hampton County, North Carolina on July 11, 1966. He was formerly employed by Wake County Public Schools, Stone’s Southern School Supply, and Sirtage Incorporated. Charles enjoyed long walks in the woods, bowling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his wife Barbara, his three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Lewis Futrell Jr. and Cheryl Lynn Futrell (Pollen) of Greensboro, NC, Warren Brian Futrell and Lesley Jean Futrell (Abernethy) of Raleigh, NC, and Richard Odell Futrell and Colleen Michelle Futrell (Pearson) of Burnsville, NC. Charles is also the beloved grandfather to five grandchildren, Katherine “Katy” and Alexander “AJ” of Burnsville and Thomas, Divinity “Dee”, and David of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Walter Floyd Futrell Jr., and his sister-in-law, Brenda Williams Futrell.
A memorial service honoring Charles’ life will be held Saturday, June 24th at 1 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Millbrook Road in Raleigh, NC. Following the service, a reception will follow at a private residence. A burial service will be conducted at a later date in Jackson, NC at the family cemetery.
