Charles A. Cooper, 86, passed away on February 18, 2015. He is survived by his companion, Barb Sampson; sons: Walt Cooper and wife, Jane and Scott Cooper; brother: Jim Cooper; sister: MaryJo C. Horton; grandchildren: Amanda Hickman, Jonathan Cooper, Allen Cooper, Chris Cooper, Sophie Cooper; and great-grandchild: Kenzie Cooper.
Charles was born in 1928 in Mt. Morris, PA. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Alaska. Following his military service, Charles moved to Raleigh where he went to work for Dillon Supply Co. He later partnered to open the first Raleigh franchise of Terminix International. In 1970 Charles left Terminix to form Cooper Pest Control, Inc. which is now in it's second generation of family ownership. During his career Charles was active in many civic and business organizations including the Raleigh Jaycees, AMBUCS and NC Homebuilders Association. In 1986 Charles was elected President of the NC Pest Control Association. Following his term as president, Charles was appointed as an Association representative to the NC Dept. of Agriculture's Structural Pest Control Committee. Following his term Charles remained active in the pest control industry.
A celebration of his life and receiving of friends will take place Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Methodist Church, Raleigh with military honors. A reception will follow at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
