Carolyn Wheeler Sims of Raleigh, NC went home to heaven Friday morning September 2. Carolyn was born in Durham, NC to the late Reuben Hart Wheeler and Minnie Livinia Daniels; and stepmother Helen C. Wheeler.
She graduated from Southern High School and went on to study at Emmaus Bible School in Chicago, IL.
She married Norman Sims who was the love of her life as they were married for over 50 years. Carolyn was a self taught music teacher who had a piano studio in her home and also taught in various other locations throughout the years, including Wake Christian Academy and North Raleigh Chapel.
She served as the church pianist for many churches including North Raleigh Chapel for over 40 years.
She touched many people's lives through teaching and considered it a ministry. Carolyn selflessly gave her time and love to help and serve as many people as possible. She played for countless weddings and funerals over her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Sims in 2014, and a sister, Sylvia Wheeler.
She is survived her daughter, Shelley S. Hamilton (and Robby), and son Greg (and Rodoflo); her sisters, Susan W. Stephens (and Gerald), Shirley W. Pfleger (and Arthur).
Also surviving is her granddaughter, Ashley H. Shelley (and Jordan), along with her two great grandsons, Judah and Levi Shelley; and her grandson, Blake Hamilton.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 from 12:30 pm -1:30 pm at North Raleigh Chapel, 5421 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh. The funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 2pm at the church. There will be a private family burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Transitions LifeCare, formerly Hospice of Wake County.
