Beloved follower of Jesus, daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend - she will be missed dearly! Carol passed away quietly in her sleep at around dinnertime, being at peace, in no pain, and knowing she was dearly loved, after a 13 year long decline from heart failure.
Carol was born in Rushville, Nebraska, to Hughes and Genevieve Heizer - the third of four daughters. She spent her childhood in Rantoul, Illinois. Carol married Dr. Dick Dillman, DVM, PhD, in 1964 and soon thereafter graduated from Kansas State University in 1966 with a degree in speech therapy. She gave birth to her first child, daughter Teresa, later that same year. Son, Patrick, was born in Ames, Iowa in 1969 when husband Dick worked for Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Carol & Dick moved to Raleigh, NC when Dick was hired by the NCSU School of Veterinary Medicine as a pathologist and teaching professor in 1975. Carol continued as a full time stay-at-home mom who lovingly raised her two children.
Carol has been preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dick, and her older sister, Alice Craighead. She is survived by two of her sisters, Valerie Skovoth and Martha Mason, her children, Patrick Dillman and Teresa Anderson, and her four grandsons: Jesse, Silas, Caleb and Levi Anderson.
Carol was known for her humor, generosity and compassion. She loved nature, being creative, and good food! She dearly loved her family and friends, and took special pride in her four grandsons. Carol was a gentle and grateful lady with an occasionally feisty side that was enjoyed by all. Her grandsons called her "Nee Nee" with great affection when they were small.
A memorial service in Carol's honor will be held at Colonial Baptist Church at 6051 Tryon Rd, Cary, NC 27518 at 11am on Friday, September 20th, with a reception immediately following at the same locale. The church is large, so please park and use the "Worship Center EAST Entrance" and follow the signs inside.
Carol loved flowers, especially white calla lilies and any shade of lavender or purple. Please send any arrangements to the above site for the service. In lieu of flowers, you may bring or send a gift in Carol's honor to SAT-7, a satellite TV agency that powerfully broadcasts crucial Christian discipleship, education and encouragement over hostile borders to 500 million viewers in the Middle East.
