Carl Everett Hanna was born on October 31, 1934 in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Carl passed away suddenly and quietly in his sleep on February 26, 2022. He lived independently and was blessed to have great physical and mental health. He was proud to be the oldest living Hanna at the age of 87.
Carl was raised in Bridgeport by his father Ed and his mother Margaret. He graduated from Bridgeport High School and then received his college degree from Alderson-Broaddus. Carl married Connie Salmons in 1956. Together, they raised three children and moved often due to work, eventually settling in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Carl worked as a store manager for Montgomery Ward before starting his own business (M-III) in Michigan as a manufacturers’ representative for, among other companies, Weber Barbeque.
At his core, Carl was an entrepreneur. After selling his business in Michigan, Carl relocated to the Florida Keys – buying and selling real estate, opening a tire store, and running a used car business. When he wasn’t working, Carl loved to sail and spent many hours/days on his sailboat (No Grief).
In the early 2000’s, Carl moved to Raleigh. He spent a great deal of time traveling in his RV and enjoying his lake property. Carl made his last move to Dapping Avenue in North Raleigh and was so fortunate to have many great and caring friends in his neighborhood. He loved reading the daily paper, working on his stocks, playing cards, and cutting out cartoons for his friends/family. We will all remember his great sense of humor.
Carl was a loving father and is survived by his daughters Deborah (Randy) and Donna (John), his son Douglas (Denise), and his five grandchildren (Lauren, Andrea, Will, Brendan and Grayson).
A memorial will be held in Raleigh on May 14, 2022.
