Caren Lynn Moss, 60, died unexpectedly on June 9, 2012 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. Caren was born in Washington, D.C. and was the daughter of Doris and Joseph Moss. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Philip Moss. She is survived by her sister, Mari Ann Moss who lives in New Zealand, and aunt and uncle, Joyce and Sidney Levine who reside in Memphis, Tennessee, and several cousins. A private memorial service and burial were held with the family in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Caren’s professional career included working for PBS and MCI in the Washington DC area, Colorado Springs, CO and in Cary, NC. She had an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and a Master of Business Administration from The George Washington University. She relocated to the Cary area. After taking early retirement, Caren continued to enjoy living in the area and being active in several community organizations. Many people will remember Caren for her warm smile and positive attitude toward life.
Games brought Caren a great deal of enjoyment and she participated in many different types as a means to socialize and make friends. She was an active member of Cary Newcomers Club for many years and enjoyed many of their small group activities: Bunco, Rummikub, Mexican Train Dominoes and Euchre. She was also a competitive Mahjongg player and played weekly, entered day long tournaments and even traveled to Colorado for week long events each fall. Reading was another of Caren’s great pleasures. She participated in a local book club, enjoyed attending book fairs and frequenting the library on a weekly basis.
Caren’s smile could also be found at the receptionist’s desk at Rex Wellness Center in Cary. She greeted many of her new friends, as well as participated in the range of motion aquatic classes. Caren also found time to be a member of 3 different Red Hat Chapters in the area and enjoyed the opportunity to dress up in red and purple clothing and a red hat, play her kazoo and laugh at herself as she enjoyed being silly and having fun with ladies 50+.
It would be amiss not to mention Caren’s love of cats. Earlier, Caren had her first cat, Muffet, and once settling in Cary, Caren adopted 2 more cats, Jinx and Samantha. These were Caren’s children and she freely shared numerous stories about them with anyone who would listen.
A “Celebration of Her Life” Service will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 10 am at Brown Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a local cat shelter in memory of Caren’s lifelong love of cats.
