Bonnie M. Merritt, 72, of Raleigh passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, November 18, 2019. Bonnie was born on September 23, 1947 in Rhode Island, to the late Merle John McIntosh and Violet Gordon McIntosh. She came to Raleigh with her family in 1952. She attended and graduated in 1967 from the Governor Morehead School.
She was a member of the Raleigh Outlaws Blind Bowling League for many years and worked as seamstress with the Raleigh Lion's Club Clinic. She enjoyed traveling, listening to audio books and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Raleigh.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son in 2011, Christopher Guthrie.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Roscoe Merritt of Raleigh; their daughter, Leila Hendricks and her husband, Todd of Johnston Co; 3 grandchildren, Cheyenne, Abigail and Isabella; her sister, Merylayne Jo Dixon and her husband, Bill of Raleigh; a niece, Alyssa Kalinowski and her husband, Pawel; a great-niece and great-nephew; a sister-in-law, Mary Simmons and her husband, Steve of Four Oaks, and their children, Kareece, Eddie, and Felicia.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC 27605. The family will receive friends following the service at Brown-Wynne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bonnie's name to the Gov. Morehead School, 301 Ashe Ave. Raleigh, NC 27606 or to the Children's Ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2100 Noble Rd. Raleigh, NC 27608.
