Bobbie Sutton Barbrey, 71, of Raleigh, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 27, 2024, in his backyard while surrounded by nature and the birds he loved, just as God intended for such a beautiful soul.
Born on January 26, 1953, in Dunn, NC, Bobbie's greatest treasure was his family and guiding others on their health and wellness journeys. He was a pillar of the community, dedicating his life to helping people improve their health and quality of life. His infectious happiness, boundless optimism, and friendly greetings left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel special and was such a kind, gentle soul that left this world entirely too soon. His kindness, positivity, and wisdom will be deeply missed.
Bobbie is survived by his loving wife, Lauren; son and daughter-in-law, Sutton and Lee Anne Barbrey; daughter and son-in-law, Kaylan and Adam Isley; granddaughter, Wyndham Barbrey; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Dave Meeker; brother and sister-in-law, Toby and Lori Barbrey; brother and partner, Rick Barbrey and Keith Wells; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Jane Barbrey.
In his early years in Dunn and Raleigh, NC, and Pontiac, MI, Bobbie developed a deep love for the outdoors and sports, especially golf. He could talk passionately about any sport, but golf and hockey held a special place in his heart. Bobbie and his first wife, Nancy, were blessed with two wonderful children, Kaylan and Sutton. He spent endless hours supporting them in all their childhood endeavors, particularly golf as they both grew up playing at North Ridge Country Club, and never missed a junior or college golf tournament across the country. He was the best caddy there was! His unwavering support and encouragement were a testament to his love and dedication. Bobbie's boundless love and pride for his family were evident in everything he did, making him the heart and soul of their lives.
Most recently, Bobbie, affectionately known as "Poppie", found his greatest joy in playing, laughing, singing, and spending time with his beloved granddaughter, four-year-old Wyndham ("Winnie"). Their special bond brought smiles to everyone fortunate enough to witness it. Poppie was truly obsessed with Winnie. Winnie was the light of his life, embodying the curiosity and magic he cherished and reminding us all of the wonder we should hold onto in life.
He attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, earning a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1976, inspired by his mentor and uncle, Pete Barbrey, also a Pharmacist. Bobbie's professional journey began at Kerr Drug in Raleigh, NC, in 1976 and evolved into a distinguished 50-year career in pharmacy, health, and wellness.
In 2001, Bobbie founded Medicap Pharmacy in North Raleigh, honoring his own father's legacy and fulfilling his own lifelong dream and purpose. Bobbie’s mission, along with the team at Medicap, is to “improve the health and wellness of every patient we are privileged to serve, with compassion and gratitude”. As a Certified Clinical Nutritionist (CCN) and Diplomate with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), Bobbie dedicated his life to guiding his patients toward better health through functional medicine and holistic approaches. Kaylan, his daughter, followed in her father’s footsteps and became a Pharmacist at Medicap. Recently, Bobbie and Lauren opened Quantum Rejuvenation, a healing energy center aimed at transforming patients' lives by changing their vibrational energetic frequency.
Bobbie was deeply passionate about longevity and embraced the principles of functional health, guiding his patients to improve their well-being beyond prescription medications. Always available to answer any question from family, friends, or patients, Bobbie found immense joy in uncovering the root causes of health issues and witnessing positive transformations. His dedication changed, and even saved, countless lives. Bobbie was the epitome of health, living the wellness principles he taught. Those who knew him will remember his boundless joy for life, his ability to make everyone feel special, and his encyclopedic knowledge of health. His advice consistently led to improved health outcomes, making a lasting impact on those who sought his guidance.
In 2009, Bobbie married Lauren in San Diego, CA. They enjoyed traveling around the world, exploring new places as well as circling back to La Jolla, CA as often as possible. And, always seeking more knowledge, they went to many healthcare conferences each year. Bobbie cherished his time outdoors, loved the Carolina Tar Heels, Michigan Wolverines, and Carolina Hurricanes, and often ended conversations with "Go Canes!" and "make it a great day!" He rarely missed a day walking his favorite trail in North Raleigh and cherished annual beach trips with family.
Bobbie's legacy is one of unwavering kindness, dedication to health and wellness, and a life lived to the fullest. He was a beacon of light for many, changing and saving lives, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
