William Thomas Wallace, 88, passed away on April 15, 2011 at Cary Health and Rehabilitation. Born on August 4, 1922, in San Francisco, CA; he was the son of the late John and Mary Little Wallace. Bill was first generation Irish and proud of it.
Bill, as he preferred to be called, retired from the US Navy, entering as an enlisted man and retiring as Chief Petty Officer. After leaving the Navy, he worked in Boston on the program that developed the process of angioplasty that prolonged the lives of many sufferers of heart attacks around the world. He continued his career in the medical field in North Carolina by working for Technicon as a trouble shooter for blood testing computers in hospitals in the South. Finally retiring, he taught himself how to do stained glass and continued this passion until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Helen Johnson Wallace of Raleigh, NC; daughter: Rita Ritchie of Apex, NC; grandson: Cody Ritchie of Matthews, NC; brothers: James Wallace of Van Nuys, CA and Robert Wallace of Sebastopol, CA.
William was preceded in death by his daughter: Dianne Scoggins formerly of Wendell, NC.
A member of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, a funeral service will be held at the church on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Graveside Services will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the USO to benefit our men and women serving our country at home and overseas.
