Raleigh, NC – As the famous Christmas story goes, every time a bell rings, an angel gets her wings. On Christmas day, the bells rang loudly for Beverly Massie Sharp, 77, wife of the late Ron Sharp, and she flew home. After 58 years together, the family suspects Ron simply couldn’t stand the thought of spending the holidays without her.
Beverly was born August 27, 1946, in Lexington, KY to the late Whitney and Bertha Massie. She was attending Bryan Station High School when she met Ron; she graduated in 1964 and they married in 1965. Beverly was a bundle of energy whose feet could never stop dancing.
Beverly had many hobbies in life: her family, her horses, her pets, gardening, and the UK Wildcats. When the family first lived in Raleigh, she worked as an administrative clerk for a law firm and later at IBM, but her true passion was anything involving horses. She served for many years as a surgical technician for Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, and she absolutely loved showing off the thoroughbreds for the Kentucky Horse Park and Keeneland sales shows. While working at the Kentucky Horse Park, Beverly met the Thoroughbred Dinard, winner of the 1991 Santa Anita Derby. Although she had many horses over the years, she never stopped talking about her sweet Dinard.
After retirement, Ron and Beverly moved back to Raleigh and lived life to the fullest making many great memories with their children which will be cherished forever. She passed away peacefully on Christmas day, holding the hands of her children.
Beverly is survived by her Goldendoodle Cooper; her children, Kelley Sharp, and her husband, David Jacobs; “Cooper, I mean Thad” and his wife Dana; and her grandchildren, Morgan and Nina.
Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved Ron; her parents; her sisters, Ibby, Marie, and Mary Jean; and her grandson Sawyer Welch Sharp.
Graveside Services were held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Raleigh Memorial Park.
