Betty Louis Matthews Davis, age 93, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday evening, July 8, 2022, at Prisma Heart Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She was born to the late Leonard and Eunice Matthews.
Betty, also known as Granny to most, was born on February 1,1929 in Joanna, South Carolina. She had Betty Davis eyes and often joked around about the song being written for her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Davis, Sr. Betty met her one and only love while growing up in Joanna, South Carolina. They moved to Atlanta first, and then all over the country as work warranted. They were married almost 50 years before his death, and had three loving children.
Betty was a stay at home Mom, yet her true job can best be described as a prayer warrior. She was a devout Christian, loving Christ first in all that she did and living his example. She was a member and served on various committees at churches throughout the country, including Cary Church of God, Mt. Vernon Church of God and Joanna Church of God to name a few. Every time the church doors opened she was there. She witnessed to anyone she could, up until her final hours before joining Christ.
A highlight to her life she often spoke about was a trip to Jerusalem, where she got to walk where Christ walked and spend time with her church family.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, taking care of almost all her children and grandchildren most of her life
She is survived by her three children, sons, Jack Davis, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Pennock, Minnesota, Bobby Davis of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Mollie Howell of Durham, NC; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Davis, Shannon Martin, Tabitha Kitchens-Beatty, William “Billy” Davis, Joshua Speir, Zachary Howell, Jessika Davis, Chad Morton, Kimberly Rohloff, and Matthew Morton and their spouses. She was blessed with 18 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at Apex United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.
