A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 3, 2023, in the auditorium at Springmoor, 1500 Sawmill Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615, Dr. David Hailey will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at Springmoor. A private family burial service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
Betsey Paul was born on February 16, 1926, in Wilson, North Carolina, to Herbert Paul Yelverton and Clyde Hall Yelverton. She graduated from Hayes Barton Grammar School, Broughton High School and Meredith College. Her life was devoted to her family and friends, and to many volunteer efforts. She was a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church of Raleigh, where she served as an adult Sunday school teacher for several different classes.
At the American Red Cross, she served as a crisis volunteer for five years. She also served for
HopeLine, NC Amtrak, and Boy/Girl Scouts of America. She was a member of the NC State University Encore program for fourteen years. She delighted in spending time with family and friends and wished to make a difference in people's lives.
She married Jackson L. Coble on July 19, 1947, at the First Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC.
She is survived by son, Paul Y. Coble (Connie); daughter, Coral Coble Stevens (Hal); daughter-in-law, Laura H. Coble; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jackson L. Coble; her son, Jackson L. Coble, Jr; a sister, Jane Y. Wells; a sister, Jacquelyn Y. Woodard; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Coble Helms and brother-in-law, Senator Jesse Helms.
