Bessie Sandlin Poole

Bessie Sandlin Poole, 98, passed away on Wednesday evening, November 2, 2011 at the Hospice Home of Wake County. Born on September 11, 1914 in New Bern, NC; she was the daughter of the late William and Elviria Proser Sandlin and the wife of the late Abe Poole.

Bessie retired as a Librarian after 40 years with the City Library of Raleigh, NC.

She is survived by her sister, Eva Abbott and husband Jim, of Hampton, VA; nieces, Donna Roberts, of Hoover, AL; Karen L. Schell, of Northampton, PA; nephews, James R. Abbott, wife Cathy of Hampton, VA; David Sandlin, wife Caroline of Blackwood, NJ, Albert Sandlin, wife Mellissa, of Elkton, MD, Thomas Sandlin, wife Suzanne of Philadelphia, PA, John Sandlin, wife Linda of Elkton, MD; 9 grandnieces and 15 grand nephews, 12 great grandnieces, 4 great grandnephews and 3 great-great grandnephews.

Bessie was preceded in death by her brothers, Oscar and Wilbur Sandlin.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 1-2 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (300 St. Mary’s Street). Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM at the funeral home, with entombment to follow at Oakwood Mausoleum.
