Beryl Evadney Scott

Ma B was born in St. Mary, Jamaica on August 4, 1921. She married her late husband Mr. Daniel Fitzgerald Scott in February 1943 and together they raised five children. In 1955, she and her life-long friend Mrs. Fossie, also known as Mrs. Dollie, migrated by ship to Birmingham, England as part of the Windrush Generation. While in England, she worked as a seamstress and homemaker. After retiring, she moved to Brooklyn, New York to be with her daughter, Minister Fay Barrett in the early 1990’s, and later the two of them moved to Lake Mary, FL.

No matter where she lived, Ma B’s life revolved around her church. Her faith in God was unshakable and deeply rooted in the Bible which she read from cover-to-cover at least 3 times from between her late 90s to 101 years old. For over three decades, Ma B was a devoted member of Refuge Touch Church of God in Orlando Florida, where she was a mother of the church, mentoring and serving as a spiritual mother to many.

In 2018, Ma B and her daughter, Fay, moved from Florida to Durham, NC to live with her loving and devoted granddaughters, Nadine and Anastatia. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas. Even at 100 years old, Ma B still wrote and mailed personal Christmas cards to family and friends across the world. In interacting with others, she was known for her warmth, laughter, kindness, sense of humor and engaging storytelling. Ma’s B’s inner beauty was matched by her extraordinary sense of fashion, often donning beautiful outfits and hairdos when running errands or going out with her granddaughter, Nadine, for Saturday “date days”. At 101, Ma B continued to live a full, joyful, and active life, marked by warm friendships and cherished memories until her Father called her home.

Ma B was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Spence, husband, Daniel Scott, daughters, Minister Fay Barrett and Valerie Scott, and daughter-in-law, Clementina Scott. She is survived by her sons, Brian Scott, Dave Scott, and Paul Scott; step-daughter, Joy Duncan; grandchildren, Nadine J. Barrett, Wayne Scott, Diane Scott, Clive Scott, Nicholas Scott, Martin Scott, Anastastia Thompson-Barrett, Charlene Williams, Antoinette Duncan, Adrian Duncan; niece, Joyce Wynter and grandnephew, Mark Wynter; her long-term friends who were like daughters, Vivienne Brown-Russell, Lynette Muirhead, Yvette Saunders, Monica David, Beverly Hilton, Michelle Champagnie, Latoya Holmes, Isrene WIlliams, Maureen Davis, and a multitude of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love His appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8

Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 12 Noon until 1:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel, with a Horse Drawn Caisson to the 3:00 pm Graveside Service at Raleigh Memorial Park. Repass will be held back at the Funeral Home Reception Room from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Masks are required for visitation and service - per the family.
