Beatrice "Bea" Wood Shearin

Mrs. Shearin was born May 08, 1937, in Harnett County, NC to the late Allie Murchison and Smithey Parker Wood. She was educated in Wake County public schools and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She received a full scholarship to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC but had to forgo her scholarship and enter the workforce to support her mother, who was diagnosed with cancer. She retired from Progress Energy after 42 years of service when her grandson, Aiden Shearin, was born.

Mrs. Shearin was regularly active within her church community, holding many titles like secretary and treasurer. She loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering to help others in need.

Bea is survived by her son Jason Shearin, and his wife, Katherine Shearin; grandchildren, Aiden and Madeline Shearin of Cary, NC; Nephews, Gene and Jerry Matthews; Niece, Doris Jones, who was like her child and the “daughter” she never had.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shearin was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Robert Shearin.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 12:00pm at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh. The family will receive visitors Sunday afternoon from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
