Barbara Ann Kinsaul Smith

Barbara was born in Pitt County, NC on October 12, 1936, and later moved to Rocky Mount where she went to school and met the love of her life Charles “Waverly” Smith. They were married on December 21, 1952, at the ages of 16 and 17 and shared a love and life together for nearly 70 years. After getting married, Barbara went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University and then moved to Raleigh where she worked as a legal secretary until starting a family.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was fearless, feisty, and protected those she loved. Her family was her sole focus, and she took care of them until the end, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and spending time with friends and family.

Barbara is survived by her husband Charles Waverly Smith, son, Scott Smith, daughter, Michele Hazzard (Neil) and other family and friends.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 1:00p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, in the chapel of Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh. Reverend Dan Baer, Jr. of St James United Methodist Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00- 1:00p.m. prior to the service.

The graveside service will be held following the chapel services at Pine View Cemetery, 761 E Raleigh Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC for those wishing to attend.
