She worked as a paralegal in a New York City law firm for 30 years. Athena belonged to the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. She was awarded several citations for her devotion to the Philoptochos Chapters in Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York.
Upon her arrival in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2007, she immediately offered her time, talent and treasure to The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Athena has traveled the world extensively, with the UK being her favorite destination. As a passenger on the Queen Mary's final voyage, she met and spoke to the Queen herself!
Athena was a kind and generous person to many, and was loved by her friends and neighbors. She had a special talent for bonding with animals, especially with dogs. She has no survivors, but was loved by her many close friends who will miss her presence in their lives.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 11 AM at: Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 5000 Leadmine Road, Raleigh, NC
Entombment at Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Avenue will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Raleigh.
