Annie McDougald Holt, 87, formerly of Raleigh, died peacefully on Monday, January 31, 2011 in Asheville. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. L.D. Holt. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Dephouse and her husband Don, of Holland MI, and her son Larry Holt and his wife Lisa, of Asheville. Annie was devoted to her children, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
For forty years Annie fostered each church LD pastored, using her organizational skills, her degree in Religious Education, and her interest in the spiritual needs of the church family. They served in Bethel and Spindale, NC, in Indiana, and then spent thirty years at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Raleigh. Annie also worked simultaneously at the State Baptist Convention in the Department of Student Work for ten of those years. After retirement, Annie and LD worked in Germany for the European Baptist Convention before moving back to serve Holly Springs Baptist Church. Annie went on to organize and sustain the Prime Timers Travel Group at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, and to teach English to visitors and immigrants to the US prior to her move to Asheville.
Annie was buried at Montlawn Memorial Park on February 10, 2011, next to LD and her parents. A memorial service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home St. Mary’s St. on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.
