Annie Laura (Polly) Davison of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on April 13th, 2025 at the age of 83. She was born on October 13, 1941 in Person County. Her family moved to Granville County in Oxford in 1949.
She graduated from Oxford High School in 1960 and attended East Carolina University and graduated in 1964 with a degree in English. She married Pete Davison in 1965 and they lived in Raleigh for 25 years and moved to Cary, NC in 1990. They would have been married for 60 years this August.
She worked as a middle school and high school English teacher in Person County and Granville County for 5 years. She loved teaching and was voted best teacher at the school several times. After her children were born, she was a stay at home mom until 1986. She went back to work for the North Carolina General Assembly as a Bill Typist and then was a Journal Clerk until she retired in 2012.
She was born a Methodist and lived a Methodist. First at Shady Grove Methodist Church in Oxford and then at St. Marks in Raleigh. When they moved to Cary, they joined First United Methodist. When they moved back to Raleigh, she and Pete were actively involved in North Raleigh United Methodist Church. Pete and Polly loved going to Sunday school and enjoyed the company of the other members. Earlier in her marriage. Pete and Polly were members at Raleigh Country Club and played golf most weekends with friends. She was a wonderful golfer and had a 16 handicap! They loved vacationing in Myrtle Beach with their family and grandsons.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Jack Dixon, and her sister, Elreda Childress.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Davison, brother, Jimmy Dixon, daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Ron Lindsay and Pam Davison and Chuck Justice, and grandsons, Connor Lindsay and Jake Lindsay whom she adored.
Family and friends are invited to attend a service at Mitchell Funeral Home at 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612 on Saturday, April 19th at 11:00am. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00am. After the service, all are welcome to come by Debbie Lindsay’s house to visit with Polly’s family and friends. Please come by to share memories and stories with us.
Interment is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22nd at 10am at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens at 7600 ACC Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27617.
