Anne Oakes Jenkins, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, born April 4, 1935, to John Herman and Kate Floyd Oakes, passed on to eternal glory on January 30, 2019 at Magnolia Glen in Raleigh.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay Jenkins Springs (Randy) of Cary, and her son, Steven Paul Jenkins (Aida Cancel) of Durham, as well as five grandchildren, Jennifer Springs Parker (Nathaniel), Adam Springs, Samuel Jenkins (Lindsay), Ben Jenkins, and Lauren Jenkins, as well as three great-grandchildren, Alex, Kaitlyn, and Meri Parker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Samuel F. Jenkins, Jr. in 1986, and her son, John Forest Jenkins in 2014, as well as siblings J.T. Oakes, Mary Delia Oakes Hunt, Elizabeth Oakes Connelly, Franklin Oakes, Mildred Oakes White, and Lynwood Oakes.
Anne had a long career at Hudson Belk, first in the downtown location, and then at Crabtree Valley Mall.
Special thanks to all of the staff at Magnolia Glen, especially Stacy, Seema, Jolie, Jane, Clarissa, and Norelle, for the loving and professional care that they showed to Anne in her final months, as well as Transitions Hospice Care in her final weeks.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, February 10 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St Mary’s Street, in Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service.
