Anne was born to Vurtle Johnson Clark and Ennis Hocutt Clark of Fuquay-Varina, NC. She grew up in Fuquay-Varina where she followed her father into the fields, learning his appreciation for nature. This started her lifelong passion for gardening. She and her mother worked in the family garden and canned their vegetables at the local cannery.
Her educational journey started in Fuquay-Varina where she lived and completed school. She went on to attend Meredith College and graduated in the Class of 1954. She received a Master of Education from NCSU in 1978.
Education has always been a focus of Anne’s life and her life’s work. After her graduation from Meredith, she taught High School math at Lexington Senior High School, for two years. She moved back to Raleigh and worked as a computer programmer at NCSU, where she met and married Bob Dahle. They made their home in Raleigh for all, but six years spent in Rochester NY, where Anne had a fulltime job looking after her wonderful children and husband Bob who worked for the Xerox Corporation.
The family returned to Raleigh in 1971 and Anne found a new career at Meredith: for the next twenty-two years, she worked with women returning to college watching them discover the joys of learning they had thought impossible. She has stated that her career at Meredith gave her great satisfaction not as much as her darling children and her steady marriage, but she did an outstanding job at Meredith and has been able to watch the women she helped bloom into themselves.
Anne is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert D. Dahle; her parents, Vurtle Johnson Clark and Ennis Hocutt Clark; her sister, Eleanor Clark Adcock; and her brother, William Lee Clark.
She is survived by her son, Carl Dahle and spouse Janet Link of Raleigh; her daughter, Allison Dahle and spouse Lou Pounder of Raleigh; her niece, Lisa Clark Ashworth and Bob Mack; great nieces, Caroline Ashworth Paris and Kristen Ashworth of Denver Colorado; nephew, Jeffrey Adcock and spouse Carol Adcock of Fuquay Varina; great nephew, Hunter Adcock and great niece, Sydney Adcock; her nephew, Lloyd Clark and spouse Katherine Clark of Columbia SC; great nephew, Braxton Clark; great niece, Chrismon Clark; and great nephew, Hudson Clark.
