Cree was born on June 28, 1925 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late William Arthur Brown and Lily Minnie May Ballew Brown.
Cree and her husband Phil met at the USO in Charleston, SC and later married there in April 1945. They moved to Syracuse for Phil to attend Syracuse University. They started their family, moving to Raleigh, NC and raising their 4 children. Cree and Phil opened The French Country Inn in Selma, NC in 1975. The restaurant closed after 12 years, due to Phil’s health and they moved back to Raleigh. After Phil’s death, Cree moved to North Charleston, SC. She was very active in Senior Friends and The Hat Ladies of Charleston. Cree visited Selma and was honored to receive the Key to the City of Selma, Selma’s 1st Founders Day Cup and was their Grand Marshall.
Her hobbies were sewing, knitting and traveling, but her most loved activity was becoming a writer later in life. She published two books based on her and Phil’s experiences, running a French restaurant in the small town of Selma and traveling to France. Cree enjoyed her world travels to locations such as; Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, France, Greece and the UK. She moved to Hendersonville, NC in 2019.
In addition to her parents, Cree was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Phillip Forman, 5 sisters and 3 brothers.
She is survived by her four children; Amy Bracewell (Joe) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Brian Forman (Jan) of Los Angeles, CA, Lorna Folks (Steve) of Fort Worth, TX, and Lisa Francis (Paul) of Fairview, NC, Grandchildren; Phillip Bracewell (Yidan), Paul Bracewell (Misty), Abigail Lee (Ray), David Forman (Hope), and Kelsey Reid (Caleb), and 8 Great Grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 11:00 at Raleigh Memorial Park.
