Andrew Joseph “Bud” Barrett, 86, of Raleigh, NC passed away Friday, August 4, 2017. He was born October 19, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Elizabeth O’Connell Barrett and John Thomas Barrett. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Bonnie Buck Barrett and his three children; Linda Barrett (John), Kim Barrett Mederos (Miguel) and Jack Barrett (Gail). His 9 grandchildren, Jack, Andrew, Aedan, Michael, Evan, Barrett, Kieran, Andrew and Brooke will always remember their Grandpa and “Grandpa B”. He was the fond uncle, great-uncle and godfather to many. He was preceded in death by his beloved brothers and sisters, Sis (Ken), Lorraine (Ray), Jack (Alice), Art, and brother-in-law Ron.
Bud was a veteran of the Korean War serving as an electrician on the mine sweeper USS Redhead in the U.S. Navy. He started his telecommunications career in 1955 as a telephone pole digger in Chicago. He continued his career in telecommunications retiring as a Marketing Manager for Northern Telecom (NORTEL) in 1995 after 20 years of service. He moved to “The South” from Chicago in 1964 and has lived in Raleigh for the last 42 years.
He had 3 great loves in his life, his wife Bonnie, his kids/grandkids and any Chicago sports team (Bears, Bulls, Black Hawks, White Sox, not Cubs). When he wasn’t cheering for “Da Bears”, he was on the golf course swearing at “Da Ball”. He was an avid sports fan with a special love for youth soccer, specifically, the Pirates, Green Hornets, Rockets and D’feeters teams.
Please join us for a memorial service at 6:00pm Saturday, August 12th at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609, followed by a celebration of Bud's life until 8:00pm.
